The magical powers of MACA

Today I am highlighting one of the BEST superfoods: Maca.
Just a few facts on this amazing superfood: Maca is originally root; it is a part of the cruciferous family of plants that include broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, turnips, and radishes. Maca is found high in the Andes in barren land where temperatures are extreme. Throughout history, maca has been used in South America to promote fertility in humans and animals.

Maca powder is a great ingredient to add to smoothies and raw desserts.
Maca has a mild malted flavor, can sometimes taste a little sweet, and sometimes have a slightly butterscotch overtone. Maca is a great emulsifier, meaning it really brings together and enhances the flavors of whatever you are making, be it a dressing or a raw dessert. A lot of people are turned off by raw foods, and the truth is, that superfoods bring out amazing natural flavors that are often cooked away in the cooking process. Raw meals can be delicious!

There are so many benefits of maca. I love maca for its adaptogenic properties. Let me explain: An adaptogen is a nutritional substance that has the ability to balance and stabilize the body, which is what we all need. Adaptogens act against physical, chemical, or biological sources of stress by increasing nonspecific resistance, allowing the body to “adapt” to stressful situations.

Just to mention a few more benefits, maca increases energy, endurance, oxygen in the blood, physical strength, neurotransmitter production, and libido.

The flavor of maca is what first got me addicted to it, and then I learned how great it was for my body, and now it is a staple in my diet!
