True Food Kitchen

Sometimes it can be hard to find a healthy restaurant when you are on a special meal plan, trying to loose weight, or trying to stick to a diet. It’s not fun to feel restricted to eating all your meals at home and maybe even turn down offers to go out with friends because you need to follow your program. True Food Kitchen is a restaurant where you can follow your diet or food plan & your friends can enjoy it too!

True Food Kitchen was created by Dr. Andrew Weil. The menu is based on his anti-inflammatory diet. One of Dr. Weil’s goals in creating this diet was to take popular trends in cuisine and pair them with healthy living without depriving the body of great flavors. You can find more information on Dr. Weil’s anti-inflammatory diet on his website at www.drweil.com.

I ate at True Food Kitchen in Santa Monica last weekend. Each time I go I enjoy it because the food is clean and yummy. All the food at True Food Kitchen is organic and locally grown. Did you know that organic foods have more vitamins, minerals and nutrients than non-organic foods? We actually feel more satisfied eating less food when we eat organic. True Food Kitchen also serves beer and wine!

So what did my friend Jackie and I eat last Saturday for dinner? I had the Sea Bass entrée and Jackie had the carrot ginger juice and the Roast Chicken entrée.

Mine tasted delicious, and the sea bass was cooked perfectly. I did not try Jackie’s chicken, but she ate the whole thing. Her juice was very orange and looked refreshing over ice on the hot day that it was.

Jackie and I were both full after cleaning our plates, so we passed on dessert; however I have had their vegan vanilla ice cream which is not only delicious, but it is a mindful one scoop.

There are five locations, three in southern California, one in Scottsdale, Arizona, and one in Phoenix. And, I must say, their Kale Salad is amazing. If you go to the one in Santa Monica, there’s lots of shopping and movie theaters close by, so you can have fun and make a night of it.

My philosophy as a nutritionist is that Food can be Medicine, and at True Food Kitchen, you feel like the food you are eating is medicine. I love the part of their mission statement that says, “At True Food Kitchen, we want you to feel better, live longer, and make your mouth happy in the process.”  I highly recommend True Food Kitchen and hope you try it!

Until next time!
